I am one of Canada’s leading experts in marketing and media relations consulting and training – an award-winning journalist, speaker, teacher and marketing consultant, with over thirty years of experience in marketing communications.
Susan Sommers + Associates was founded in 1982 and has designed marketing and publicity programs for public and private sector companies and organizations in Canada and the United States. I have developed strategic communications’ plans, special events, publicity campaigns, promotional materials, and new identity programs for such clients as Queen’s University, The Toronto Blue Jays, Designers Ontario, The Second Cup, Moneysworth & Best Shoe Repair, and the Alzheimer Society of Toronto.
As a journalist and author, I have written weekly columns for The Globe and Mail and The Toronto Star newspapers, as well as feature articles for a variety of consumer and trade publications. She is the author of three books on marketing and media relations: Building Media Relationships (Irwin Publishing, 2002), Building Media Relationships, 2nd edition (Oxford University Press, 2008 and Marketing To Win: Strategies and Tools for Non-Profits (Civil Sector Press, 2009).
As a teacher and workshop leader, I have designed and delivered marketing and media relations’ courses through Schulich School of Business’ Executive Program, Carleton University’s Sprott School of Business, Ryerson University, University of Western Ontario, George Brown College, and Humber College as well as teaching marketing and media relation’s courses through the University of Toronto, School for Continuing Studies.
In September 2017, Wootten & Sommers was launched with partner Anne Wootten. We offer training and coaching to entrepreneurs in content creation, presentation skills, networking, and video production.
I am a two-time Marathoner and the author of two books on health and fitness for women: Power Source for
