Laurel Best is a professional artist who loves to capture nature in her paintings. She studied math at the University of Waterloo and worked for many years as a computer programmer and business analyst. Laurel has always made art an essential part of her life, spending hours as a child absorbed in her pencil drawings, and taking up watercolour painting in her 20s. Today, Laurel paints in watercolour, oil and acrylics. Laurel’s passion for art is perhaps not surprising. Her grandmother, Jean Monkhouse, was an oil painter and art teacher; her father, Lawrence Monkhouse, is a professional photographer. In addition to familial training, Laurel studied art at Seneca College, Visual Arts Mississauga, the Burlington Art Gallery, and with renowned artist Wilma Stammler.
Laurel shares her love of art by teaching kids and adults through paint parties, corporate painting events, watercolour classes at the Oakville Art Society, and individual lessons for kids and adults. Her work has been viewed in 71 countries and sold in the United Kingdom, the U.S., and across Canada. For more information about Laurel and to view her work, visit www.laurelbest.com.
